Retro apps, games, experiments & firmwares
Everything I've built purely for the joy of retro coding. Most of the code is open source, so feel free to contribute.

Duke Nukem 1 (FreeNukum ST)
1991 saw the arrival of two 90s icons: Duke Nukem and the Atari Mega STE, but sadly they never met... Until now! To celebrate their 35th Birthday I've ported the full Episode 1 (shareware version) of Duke Nukem to the Atari ST. Come get STome!

DUNE II (OpenDUNE)
OpenDUNE is an open source recreation of the popular game Dune II by Westwood Studios. I wanted to play it on my Mega STE, but the original TOS port by Thomas Bernard was 68030-only, so I made a few tweaks, fixed a few bugs and now it runs on any machine in the ST family (just don't expect 60fps).

Flashback (REminiscence)
Of all the games that never had an official release on the Atari ST, one of the ones I was most disappointed about was Flashback (Delphine Software, 1992). So, using STDL and the Amiga data files, I've ported REminiscence, Gregory Montoir's re-implementation of the original game engine, to the Atari ST.

Koules
Koules is a fast, frictionless arcade game: you are a rocket in a box full of red spheres, and everything bounces. Push the koules into the walls before they push you, and try not to be shoved into a black hole while you do it. Written in 1995 for Linux and OS/2, it's finally bounced its way to the Atari ST.

Rise of the Triad (ROTT)
What better way to celebrate the 30th-ish anniversary of ROTT than to port it to a hardware platform celebrating its 40th-ish: Welcome to Rise of the Triad for Atari ST, TT & Falcon! I created 2 versions, a highly optimised one for Atari ST, that's just about playable on a Mega STE, and a lightly optimised SDL one for accelerated STs, TT or Falcon, that looks and feels just like the original. Got a SidecarTridge Multi-device? Add the ROTT Accelerator and play at up to 30fps.

ST Pong Wars
The eternal battle between day and night, good and bad, comes to the Atari ST! Includes the original Pong Wars for any ST or STE, plus Pong Wars 2: Overdrive, a brand-new STE-exclusive that uses overscan to take the action right to the edge of your screen.

ST Sopwith
The source code for the classic 1984 side-scrolling MS-DOS shoot 'em up Sopwith revealed a secret: a colour palette and stub functions for an Atari ST port that was never completed... until now!

ZX Pong Wars
The eternal battle between light and dark, day and night, comes to the ZX Spectrum! Two AI-controlled balls fight for territory in a perpetual stalemate — press SPACE to cycle through three colour schemes. Runs on a real 48K from tape, in an emulator, or on a SidecarTridge Multi-device via MD/Speccy.

Apps
Doing things the hardware really shouldn't be able to do.
Experiments
Let's see how far we can push these machines before they break.

Atari ST Mega Plasma
Have you ever dreamed of displaying 3,000 colours on screen at once on your Atari STE? Well, a mere 37 years after the STE was released, here's a scanline-blasting plasma demo that will bring your dream to life.

Firmwares
Firmwares for retro hardware including SidecarTridge Multi-device and ACSI2STM.

ACSI2STM
My fork of the latest firmware resolves GemDrive file detection errors for apps built using MiNTLib, including popular projects like STDOOM and any other software that uses the POSIX I/O layer. It also fixes system crashes when running on Atari Mega STE at 16MHz with cache.

MD/DOOM
Yes, the SidecarTridge Multi-device is brilliant, but can it run DOOM? MD/DOOM is full speed, fully playable Doom on your Atari ST, with sound effects through the STE's DMA chip if you have one and the YM2149 if you don't. Click here to download the level packs and get shooting.

MD/Hello, SidecarT!
Every new coding adventure begins with 'Hello, World!' — a minimal example microfirmware for the SidecarTridge Multi-device, and the perfect starting point for writing your own SidecarT apps for the Atari ST.

MD/JS
MD/JS turns your SidecarTridge Multi-device into a persistent JavaScript Worker for the Atari ST. Upload JavaScript source from your ST, call named functions with JSON arguments, fetch text or JSON files, and use modern ES2020 features — all running on the SidecarT.

MD/MJPEG
Why watch videos at 4K resolution in 16.7 million colours when you can watch them at 0.3K in 16! Stream MJPEG video with sound from your SidecarT's SD card to your Atari ST.

MD/Net
MD/Net is Atari ST WiFi that just works. Install the firmware, copy the STinG files to your ST's hard disk, run INSTALL.TOS from the cartridge, and reset. That's it, your ST is online.

MD/Pico3D
An open-world 3D game engine for the Atari ST, powered by the SidecarTridge Multi-device. Walk around a small city, watch the colours change between day and night, and take on a few zombies along the way.

MD/Sidepad
MD/Sidepad enables your SidecarTridge Multi-device to connect almost any Bluetooth gamepad to your Atari ST and use it as a joystick and/or mouse, and as a controller for any game that supports Xpad. We've recreated some classic games so you can give it a try, and it works perfectly with FreeNukum ST!

MD/Snap
MD/Snap turns your SidecarTridge Multi-device into a screenshot button for your Atari ST: press SELECT and the current screen is saved as a 640×400 PNG on the SD card. It works in every ST resolution and corrects the aspect ratio for you.

ROTT Accelerator
The ROTT Accelerator turns your SidecarTridge Multi-device into a graphics card for Rise of the Triad, enabling you to play it at up to 30fps on your Atari ST. Your ST runs the game while the Multi-device takes care of the 3D rendering to give you a fast, playable game. Still experimental.

Hardware
Little gadgets you can build yourself to give retro machines a few modern superpowers.
Libraries & Tools
Creative tools and code libraries to help you build something amazing.

EmuMD: Multi-device Emulation Tools
Developing for the SidecarTridge Multi-device usually means building a UF2, copying it to the microSD card, rebooting your ST and hoping, every time you change something. EmuMD lets you skip all that and run your firmware in Hatari instead, on your Mac or PC, right alongside the Atari ST software that talks to it.

SFP-004 FPU Library
A small C library that lets you use a memory-mapped MC68881/68882 FPU via the SFP-004 interface. It maps the coprocessor's registers into the ST's address space so you can put real floating-point hardware to work where the bare 68000 can't. It even comes with some 3D demos.

- MegaSTE

STDL: Atari ST DirectMedia Layer
STDL is an easier way to port SDL 1.x games to the Atari ST. It's a planar-native subset of SDL 1.2, making SDL 1.x game ports mostly mechanical, with no chunky backbuffer or c2p anywhere in the pipeline.

Xpad for Atari ST
Xpad is an open standard for extended controller input for the Atari ST family, that exposes every button, stick and trigger of a modern gamepad to native ST software, enabling you to use modern controllers in your ST games. Named after the Linux xpad driver, whose button naming it follows.

ZX Spectrum Toolkit
A cross-platform developer toolkit for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum, packaged in Docker. Edit code on your own machine and run a single `zxcmd` wrapper to build — the container bundles Z80 assemblers, C compilers (z88dk/SDCC), ZX0/ZX7 compression, a BASIC tokenizer, and tape/snapshot converters, so there's no retro toolchain to install locally.
